Prescribing potential
Article Abstract:
A survey has investigated district nurses' knowledge of wound management following the Cumberlege Report recommendation for nurse prescribing. A sample of 35 district nurses from one London health authority participated. About 80% responded to a questionnaire. Over 92% wanted to prescribe but 75% questioned their competency. The survey revealed variable knowledge of the use of hydrocolloid and alginate dressings and associated wound healing determinants. Findings suggest a need for further education before the implementation of nurse prescribing.

An integrated approach
Article Abstract:
Patient care must be organised in an integrated collaborative way if costs are to be kept down. Multidisciplinary health-care teams have traditionally operated only in mental health and elderly care, but are now also starting to play a role in other areas, such as wound management. Here, it is vital to bring together nursing, medican and paramedical activities to offer the most appropriate treatment.
