In for the big catch
Article Abstract:
There seems to be renewed interest in nursing in the UK, following a focus on recruitment, through 'Making a Difference,' nursing strategy, although there are still issues to address. There is still a worrying drop-out rate, and it is difficult for other health professionals to transfer to nursing. According to a South Downs Trust nurse executive, Lisa Rodrigues, change in strategy for the education of health professionals is needed, with perhaps a joint foundation course before a specialty is chosen.

We're independent, aren't you?
Article Abstract:
Renal nurses have a high level of independence. They enjoy personal satisfaction and are involved in developing the nursing profession for the future. An important part of a renal nurse's role is support for patients and carers. To this end they provide not only direct care, but also train other primary care team members to be aware of particular problems and to solve them. Renal nurses make decisions in collaboration with their patients, with whom they develop mutual respect and trust.
