Inequality and infant mortality
Article Abstract:
The U.K. government has set a target to achieve 10 percent reduction in the inequalities in health outcomes by 2010 as measured by infant mortality and life expectancy at the time of birth. The Department of Health carried out a review on the issue of the widening gap between different social groups in the case of infant mortality and the results of the review are presented along with proposed action plan for health care professionals to help reduce health inequalities.

Avian influenza and pandemics
Article Abstract:
The confirmation of the outbreak of H5N1 strain of avian influenza in England by the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) has made people worried about a global influenza pandemic. The scientists are still studying the various possibilities of transmission and cause of the virus, which can be beneficial to the government and the healthcare workers to develop some contingency plans to overcome the crisis.

Preventing drug misuse among vulnerable young people

The majority of the drug abusers in England and Wales are between the ages of 16 and 24, which can also lead to the risk of other sexually transmitted infections. To deal with this problem, NICE has published public health intervention guidance to the NHS and non-NHS practitioners and others who have a direct or indirect role in reducing substance misuse.
