Critical steps in instrument cleaning: removing debris after sonication
Article Abstract:
Dental instruments should be rinsed thoroughly after ultrasonic cleaning. Researchers used ultrasonic cleaning on several hand instruments and microscope slides that had been contaminated with blood. In some cases, the equipment was not rinsed after the cleaning. Microscopic examination revealed that many slides and instruments contained traces of blood after cleaning. Analysis of the cleaning solution showed that blood cell debris accumulated if the solution was not changed.
