Infection control: the role of the nurse
Article Abstract:
Hospital-based and community-based nurses alike must integrate an infection control strategy into their practice in order to prevent cross-infection. An infection control strategy should be designed to remove harmful organisms, eliminate methods of cross-infection and protect the population. The concept of universal precautions is at the heart of infection control practice. Universal precautions include hand-washing, the wearing of protective clothing and the safe disposal of clinical waste. It is also essential to cover all cuts and abrasions with waterproof dressing.

Florence of Arabia
Article Abstract:
A nurse describes her time working in Saudi Arabia in a hospital complex. All new nurses had to undergo a short induction programme and it was found that regulations concerning clinical practice were similar to those in Britain. Much of the surgical work concentrated on gynaecological problems and ear, nose and throat surgery. There was virtually no primary health care and GPs and health visitors were located in the hospital's A&E department.
