Too close for comfort
Article Abstract:
Nurses routinely have intimate physical contact with patients and are at risk of becoming emotionally or sexually involved as a result. Common misconceptions which nurses may hold include thinking it is acceptable to get involved with a patient if the patient initiates the behaviour or if it occurs outside the hospital or care centre. Nurses need support and an honest approach to sexuality if they are to cope with these problems and retain their professional integrity. Definitions of sexually abusive acts are listed.
