Interaction of Interceed oxidized regenerated cellulose with macrophages: a potential mechanism by which Interceed may prevent adhesions
Article Abstract:
Interceed surgical mesh may prevent adhesions after surgery by interfering with the biologic processes that lead to their formation. Adhesions are fibrous connections that can occur after surgery and sometimes lead to intestinal obstruction. Researchers evaluated Interceed (Johnson & Johnson Medical), a mesh material used to prevent adhesions, in a laboratory. Macrophage white blood cells, when incubated with dissolved Interceed, showed diminished biochemical activity. This may reduce the inflammatory response of these cells thought to be involved in adhesion formation.

RU486 inhibits expression of lysophosphatidic acid induced glycodelin
Article Abstract:
A study was undertaken to provide evidence for the mode of action of RU486 on glycodelin produced in K562 cells to show that histiocytes may be a source of glycodelin in leiomyoma. The results concluded that RU486, partly acting as an antioxidant, markedly reduces lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) stimulated glycodelin production.

Glycodelin mediates the increase in vascular endothelial growth factor in response to oxidative stress in the endometrium
Article Abstract:
A study examines whether glycodelin stimulates vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in response to oxidative stress in the endometrium. Results suggest that glycodelin might act as an autocrine factor within endometriotic implants to increase VEGF expression during oxidative stress.
