Intrabony lymphoma simulating periradicular inflammatory disease
Article Abstract:
Early stages of intrabony lymphoma may be mistaken for periradicular inflammatory disease. Malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma can spread to other areas, including the mouth. The jaw lymphoma of a 37-year-old man initially seemed like mobile teeth that were sore to the touch. The patient had experienced pain following a root canal procedure on tooth number 26 three months earlier. Radiographic imaging showed a round radiolucency suggesting a root inflammation. Surgery, however, revealed massive bone destruction and necrotic bone tissue around teeth 25 through 28. Laboratory examination of the diseased tissue indicated a lymphoma diagnosis. Treatment consisted of chemotherapy followed by radiation treatment. No cancer was evident at examination 14 months later.

The automated external cardiac defibrillator: lifesaving devices for medical emergencies
Article Abstract:
Automated external cardiac defibrillators (AEDs) are becoming affordable enough to be widely available for emergency resuscitation in medical and dental offices and many public locations. AEDs both analyze the heart beat of a patient who may be in cardiac arrest, and deliver a defibrillating jolt of electricity to correct ventricular fibrillation, when appropriate. Little training is necessary to safety use an AED on a patient in distress, and rapid defibrillation is far more effective than cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the treatment of cardiac arrest.
