Invited commentary: epidemiology and risk assessment
Article Abstract:
Risk assessment is a widely used term in epistemology for such factors as environmental pollutants and other dangerous exposures. The 1983 National Research Council report revealed that risk assessment provides an indication of the hazard posed to a population people and the areas they cover. Risk assessment is used by governmental agencies, private sector, and scientists to set priorities and develop regulatory exposure limits and emission standards.

Invited commentary on "early and late weight gain following smoking cessation in the lung health study
Article Abstract:
Most of the 50 mil Americans who prefer to quit smoking cite concerns about weight gain as a result of smoking cessation. Researchers have noted that successful quitters have gained 2 to 4 times more weight than expected. Studies also reveal that men gain an average of 4.57 kg and women gain about 8.71 kg over a five year period. More studies are need to address remedies for weight control following smoking cessation.
