Island reforms: Malta's mental health services trail about 20 years behind UK practices and are in need of urgent overhaul
Article Abstract:
The mental health service in Malta was modelled on the UK's but is at least 20 years behind developments in the UK. However nurses at Mount Carmel psychiatric hospital are starting to accept that community care reforms are inevitable following a report that found that many mental health nurses have attitudes that are not always consonant with modern trends and techniques. The report also criticises psychiatrists for undermining links with othe rhealth care professionals.
