Isolation of an unusual fungus in treated dental unit waterlines
Article Abstract:
Dentists who use antiseptic cleaning agents to kill bacteria in their waterlines may inadvertently cause fungi to grow in the water. This is what happened when dentists used a stabilized chlorine dioxide solution to sterilize the waterlines in a dental office. As the solution killed the bacteria, a fungus called Exophiala mesophila began to grow in the waterline.

Potential health and environmental issues of mercury-contaminated amalgamators
Article Abstract:
Dental amalgamators may be contaminated with mercury, which could be released as mercury vapor during a procedure. It is likely that this vapor would mix with room air and not pose a hazard, but it may be wise to discard contaminated amalgamators.
