It can't happen in this country - but then again..
Article Abstract:
Enterprise liability, capitated plans and other proposed health care initiatives may have unanticipated results. For example, enterprise liability could decrease physician accountability to patients and increase malpractice suits because physicians would have less at stake. Capitated plans might act as a disincentive for physicians to treat patients after hours, in emergency rooms or to order special tests. Physician access, quality, choice and liability must be built in to any new system and guaranteed through incentives.

I'm a physician first, foremost - then a specialist
Article Abstract:
The health care reform debate has emphasized the idea that physicians have much in common regardless of what specialty they practice in. Although many physicians feel divided by their different specialties, the outside world, including the Clinton administration's health care reform team, sees them as a single group with common interests. In fact, physicians have a better chance of enacting positive change in the health care system if they unite as a single entity.

Physician-assisted suicide issue is not one for law books
Article Abstract:
Physician-assisted suicide is not an issue that should be decided in the courts. Instead, patient care should be a matter between a patient and his or her physician. The situation is complex, and the line between humanitarian death and murder is a fluid one and depends on many factors, including available treatments. A law that either forbids or allowed assisted death should not be written, but such situations should be handled with love and compassion.
