Accreditation, managed care and subacute care
Article Abstract:
There appears to be a trend towards requiring accreditation for health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and other providers in order to assure and maintain the delivery of quality health care. Standards have been set by the National Committee for Quality Assurance and accreditation is granted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The competition between HMOs and other providers has also driven the push for accrediting health care providers.

Health care networks: opportunities and threats for subacute care
Article Abstract:
It may be advisable for extended nursing care facilities to reevaluate their alliances with local hospitals and physician groups in light of recent trends towards developing provider sponsored organizations (PSOs). PSOs are groups of physicians or hospitals contracting directly with client groups. It may make financial and medical sense for a PSO to provide extended nursing care on its hospital site if there is no alliance with a local nursing care facility.
