Kaiser launches patient-accessible EMR

California-based group, Kaiser Permanente is using a system developed by Epic Systems Corp. to introduce paperless and patient-physician communication systems and make medical records accessible to patients over a secure Web site. The group is also planning to create a database containing anonymous patient data and to provide data for best practices.

The server behind a computer system has multiple disks that provide built-in data backup in case a hard drive gets crashed when a storage system is protected by redundant array of independent disks (RAID). The ways to protect data in case computer network goes down are mentioned.
