Skills like listening and negotiation, knowledge of child protection, approachability, ability to gain colleagues' trust of staff, empathy, supervision skills and patience are required to become a named nurse for child protection. Child protection is an area of nursing that many might avoid but the rewards of working in such a high-responsibility role can be immense.

Are nurses suited to new ECP role?
Article Abstract:
The US government announces an expansion in the role of emergency care practitioners (ECPs) however skepticism regarding encouraging nurses for this role is expressed. ECPs would treat category-C 999 calls like minor injuries and ailments in patients' home and assist GPs in making urgent home visits and managing chronic conditions.

Taking eye care to the patient: by taking on postoperative cataract checks in the community, a team of Merseyside nurses have increased the number of patients treated as day cases, freeing up both doctors' time and hospital beds

Nurses at the Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust in Liverpool, England are conducting at home eye examinations of cataract surgery patients who would normally have had to stay overnight in the hospital without the service. The eye examinations free up hospital space and help prevent the complications that may arise from cataract surgery.
