Laparoscopy during pregnancy: a study of five fetal outcome parameters with use of the Swedish Health Registry
Article Abstract:
Fetuses whose mothers undergo laparoscopic surgical procedures do not appear to be at any greater risk than fetuses whose mothers undergo traditional abdominal surgery are. The frequency of five birth complications were compared among 1,522 women who had traditional abdominal surgery during pregnancy and 2,181 women who had laparoscopic surgery during pregnancy. The number of birth defects and infant survival rates were similar between these two groups. However, infants in the laparoscopic surgery group were more likely to be born prematurely and at a lower birth weight compared to other infants born during the study period.

Low midpregnancy placental volume in rural Indian women: a cause for low birth weight?
Article Abstract:
A small placenta may cause intrauterine growth restriction in the fetus because the placenta cannot deliver enough nutrients to the fetus. A study of Indian women found that pregnant women who were short and thin prior to pregnancy were more likely to have a small placenta.
