Groups call truce over metabolic syndrome
Article Abstract:
The American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association have reached a common ground over the treatment of the metabolic syndrome, which is a group of risk factors like prediabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and obesity that could increase risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. While both organisations pledged support for greater prevention and treatment efforts to fight diabetes and cardiovascular-related deaths due to undertreated risk factors, they do not mention specifically about the increased utility of grouping these risk factors together as the metabolic syndrome.

Abuse of Prescription Drugs: Is a Patient Ailing or Addicted?
Article Abstract:
There are certain red flags that doctors can look for to determine if a patient is abusing prescription drugs. Hydrocodone is the most abused prescription drug in the US. It is a form of codeine, which is potentially addictive. A Cincinnati study found that over 2 million units of prescription medicine were diverted for abuse in that city between 1990 and 1999. However, some patients with chronic pain may have a legitimate need for painkillers. One red flag is patients who go from doctor to doctor in order to continue getting the drug.
