Learning to approach patients' sexuality as part of holistic care
Article Abstract:
Many patient care plans fail to include assessment for sexuality, while others take a misguided approach to issues relating to sexuality. Nurses who aim to take a holistic attitude to patient care need to be comfortable with the issue of patient sexuality, which also implies that they have to be aware of their own sexuality. It is important that nurses identify areas of their own sexuality where they feel uncertain and consider their developmental and educational needs in these areas.

How men and women view the world: a sexual perspective
Article Abstract:
Several sexual stereotypes have existed for some years but are largely become irrelevent to today's society. These sterotypes however have contributed to how men and women view each other. Men often view the world through concepts of independence, aggressiveness, rationality and objectivity, whereas women see the world through the concepts of morale, intimacy, passiveness and dependency. Different values and priorities are placed on what attracts men and women to each other.

Back to basics?
Article Abstract:
The future of nursing in general and for specialist and advanced practices in particular should be examined, or there is may be a danger of nursing becoming deprofessionalised. A recent Heathrow report called on nurses to coordinate support workers instead of undertaking physical tasks, and to promote holistic care. An opposing view that compartmentalises holistic care is presented.
