Ligand-directed targeting of genes to the site of disease
Article Abstract:
This review discusses the strategies used in targeted in vivo gene transfer using viral-based- and non-viral vectors. The genes are directed to tissue- and tumor-specific receptors instead of via their native receptors. Such direct approaches are possible with advances in viral vector design, use of adenoviral, retroviral, and adeno-associated viral vectors and improvements in non-viral vector design.

Fas engagement accelerates liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy
Article Abstract:
Research shows that liver cells constitutively express Fas (CD95) receptors and regulate apoptotic cell death and provide growth-promoting cues to T cells, fibroblasts, and some tumor cells. Data demonstrate that Fas-specific antibodies cause hepatic failure and death, which is prevented by partial hepatectomy that promotes liver regeneration.
