Linking HIV and antiretroviral drug resistance surveillance in Peru: A model for a third-generation HIV sentinel surveillance
Article Abstract:
The antiretroviral (ARV) drug resistance surveillance was linked to the regular second-generation HIV sentinel surveillance that were biannually conducted among man who have sex with men (MSM) in Peru since 1996 to gain insight into the prevalence and patterns of ARV drug resistance in Peru in 2002. Results revealed that linking ARV resistance and HIV sentinel surveillance in developing settings was feasible and should be considered in third-generation HIV sentinel surveillance programs.

Integration of antiretroviral treatment within antenatal care in Gauteng province, South Africa
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of interventions to increase the uptake of triple-antiretroviral (ARV) treatment and reduce delays in initiating treatment during pregnancy was investigated. It was found that strengthening linkages and integrating key components of ARV treatment within antenatal care reduces time-to-treatment initiation and among women with a high mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) risk, and that triple-ARV regimens are effective in reducing HIV infection in infants.

The antiretroviral regimen complexity index
Article Abstract:
A novel method of quantifying regimen complexity using objective criteria addressing the factors that might complicate adherence to antiretroviral regimens is presented.
