Expression of protein kinase C isozymes in nonpregnant and pregnant human myometrium
Article Abstract:
Protein kinase C levels in the uterus increase during pregnancy. Protein kinases activate or inactivate other proteins and protein kinase C may play a role in uterine contraction during labor.

Magnesium sulfate induces translocation of protein kinase C isoenzymes alpha and delta in myometrial cells from pregnant women
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine the effect of magnesium sulfate on protein kinase C (PKC) translocation cell in the myometrial cells from pregnant women. It is observed that magnesium sulfate induces PKC translocation in cultured myometrial cells in pregnant women and extra cellular calcium is needed by magnesium sulfate and oxytocin to induce translocation of both PKC alpha and delta.

Cocaine augments contractility of the pregnant human uterus by both adrenergic and nonadrenergic mechanisms
Article Abstract:
Cocaine can cause contraction of the uterus and can increase the effect of other chemicals that contract the uterus. Researchers exposed samples of uterine tissue from 42 women who had a cesarean to cocaine and various other chemicals. Cocaine tripled the rate of contraction of the samples and this effect was blocked by prazosin, a drug that blocks adrenergic receptors. Cocaine also increased the effect of a chemical that causes contraction by stimulating the adrenergic receptors. Cocaine also increased the effect of oxytocin, a drug that does not affect adrenergic receptors.
