Lifelong exposure
Article Abstract:
Physicians are paying closer attention to the effects of long-term low-level exposure to environmental toxins, and their research has, inevitably, led them to concentrate on the aged. Three areas of concern are methanol, which burns folic acid; lead, which bioaccumulates; and ultraviolet radiation, which has been linked to cataracts. These studies are hindered by the tendency to link many health problems with the aging process and by the limited amount of data on the aged.

When health care gets down to the hard choices
Article Abstract:
Americans are unused to the idea that their resources are limited, including money to pay for health care. Although they may agree to a rationed health care system, it will be very hard to adjust to a plan in which patients may not be treated for curable diseases because society cannot afford it. This type of decision will be even more difficult for physicians, and they may be unable to uphold the oath they have taken to treat anyone who needs care.
