Accidental hypothermia: a guide to treatment in the field
Article Abstract:
Hypothermia is a particularly difficult condition to detect and treat, as it presents very differently in different patients, and can occur at any time of the year. In the field, it is not possible to obtain core temperatures of the patient, so it is necessary to look for the presence of shivering to detect the severity of the hypothermia. If shivering is present, then the hypothermia is not likely to be severe. The initial treatment in severe cases should focus on preventing further heat loss, rather than on rewarming.

Advantages and disadvantages of colloid and crystalloid fluids
Article Abstract:
The inconclusive debate on the use of colloid or crystalloid intravenous infusions in fluid resuscitation is discussed. Crystalloid solutions do not cause any allergy but colloids may cause anaphylactic reactions. As very little evidence is available on the benefits of colloid or crystalloid solutions on hypovolaemia, more research is required.
