Easy as pie
Article Abstract:
The UK Manual Handling (Operations) Regulations will impose general health and safety duties on employers in Jan 1993. About 33% of accidents are manual handling. Employers will need to prepare a company health and safety report, defining key areas for assessment, control measures and performance standards. Critical jobs and areas where manual handling can be eliminated should be examined. Employee 'Discomfort reporting' is an excellent method of assessing problems. Ergonomics are important and are simple to adopt and inexpensive; such as lowering shelves. Training is a legal requirement.
