Micronutrients: how important in old age?
Article Abstract:
A study was done to determine the ill-effects of marginal micronutrient status in the ageing process. Results show the presence of clinical risks in the event of severe micronutrient deficiency however, these risks cannot be clearly defined in situations wherein marginal deficiencies exist. Scurvy is one disease entity which was manifested in the presence of vitamin C deficiency. Likewise, cellular immunity was found to improve with the supplementation of antioxidant micronutrients.
