Molecular mechanisms of HIV protease inhibitor-induced endothelial dysfunction
Article Abstract:
The advances in the molecular mechanisms of protease inhibitor (PI)-induced endothelial dysfunction are described. The new discoveries have helped in understanding the molecular mechanisms of the interaction between HIV PIs and vascular cells and have also suggested some potential approaches to control HIV PI-associated cardiovascular complications.

Effects of 5 HIV protease inhibitors on vasomotor function and superoxide anion production in porcine coronary arteries
Article Abstract:
A comparison between the effects of five commonly used protease inhibitors (PIs) on vasomotor function, endothelial nitric oxide synthase expression, and oxidative stress in porcine coronary arteries is presented. The results suggest that antioxidant therapy might have applications for controlling PI-associated cardiovascular complications.

Effects of HIV protease inhibitor ritonavir on vasomotor function and endothelial nitric oxide synthase expression
Article Abstract:
The effects of the HIV protease inhibitor (PI) ritonavir on vasomotor function and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression are determined. The study suggests that ritonavir may contribute to coronary artery disease formation in antiviral therapy for HIV-infected patients.
