Article Abstract:
Reports state that insured Americans accounted for most of the 16% increase in hospital emergency department (ED) visits during a six-year period ending in 2001. Capacity constraints of office-based doctors and loosened managed care restrictions are expected to contribute to nonsurgent Ed visits.
