Gunning for the big three
Article Abstract:
The bacteria responsible for hospital-acquired infections can be divided into the three major pathogens: staphylococci, streptococci and gram-negative rods. Most pathogens do not survive well in a dry environment, and it is therefore important to dry items such as bedside tables after they have been washed. Health care staff must also be made aware that hand-washing is a key technique in preventing cross-infection. Infection control can only be truly effective if undertaken at ward level by all staff.
