Inside stories
Article Abstract:
Nurses caring for patients with intestinal failure need to be prepared to adopt a flexible individualized approach. When planning care, consideration must be given to the patient's emotional, physical and psychological needs. Where possible, enteral feeding should be used, although patients with intestinal failure may sometimes need to be fed through a distal stoma or fistula. All members of a multidisciplinary team must be extremely sympathetic to the patient's needs if a full recovery is to be made.

A rising challenge
Article Abstract:
The practice of waking patients early on a Sunday morning is debated. Nurse could be seen as acting in a way that cause harm to patients according to Beauchamp and Childress's Ethical Grid. It can however be argued that nurses are protecting their patients by starting early, so that they can provide all patients with full nursing care. The question is debated by a deontological, a utilitarian, an existential and an Aristotelian nurse.
