Obstetric ultrasonography: a biophysical consideration of patient safety - the "rules" have changed
Article Abstract:
A description and analysis of the new on-screen indexes that will appear on an ultrasound monitor are presented. Ultrasound was considered safe in the past because the instruments were low-power. The development of high-power instruments led the FDA to require ultrasound monitors to display two pieces of information: the thermal index and the mechanical index. The thermal index illustrates the risk of heat damage to internal organs and the mechanical index illustrates the risk of gas bubble formation in some organs. Ultrasound can cause both of these complications.

Fetal cheek-to-cheek diameter in the prediction of mode of delivery
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess sonographic fetal cheek-to-cheek diameter (CCD) in predicting mode of delivery. It was concluded that CCD, as a reflector of fetal adipose tissue, performed as well as actual birth weight and demonstrated good prediction for delivery by cesarean section.

Neuropsychological performance in normal pregnancy and preeclampsia
Article Abstract:
Neurocoginitive function in preeclampsia and normal pregnancy is evaluated. The conclusion reveal that no cognitive defects is detected in preeclamptics, compared with normotensive gravidas, at least while the cerebral vasodilator Mg[SO.sub.4] is being infused.
