Gloves: the pros and cons
Article Abstract:
Wearing protective gloves has been routine practice for nurses since the 1980s because of the increasing risks of AIDS and hepatitis. Gloves are worn to protect the patient, but nowadays nurses admit wearing them to protect themselves from infection, and many nurses wear them continuously. Nurses can develop allergies and sore hands if gloves are worn all the time and patients can feel alienated if there is no skin contact with care staff. Nurses sometimes also forget to change the gloves and wash their hands to prevent cross-infection.
