Surface roughness of glass-ceramic insert-composite restorations: assessing several polishing techniques
Article Abstract:
Only diamond finishing burs should be used to polish restorations that contain glass-ceramic inserts. This was demonstrated in a study where 7 different polishing techniques were used on glass-ceramic preparations in a cylinder prepared from plastic resin. The methods included a carbide finishing bur and diamond paste and a diamond finishing bur with various types of paste. All techniques resulted in similar smoothness but the carbide bur damaged the glass-ceramic preparation.

Twenty-four-month clinical evaluation of different posterior composite resin materials
Article Abstract:
The authors discuss the use of resins instead of metals for teeth in the rear of the mouth. These teeth undergo much greater wear and tear, and tests on resins used in the 1970's and 1980's found them lacking. The new resins they tested (three different brands) all passed monthly examination for wear and can be expected to last 10 years or more.
