Oregon wants federal action on Medicaid plan
Article Abstract:
Officials in Oregon are annoyed at the hesitation of the federal government to grant waivers the state needs to implement a controversial Medicaid restructuring. The state has been waiting since August 1991 for a response from the Health Care Financing Administration, but such a response seems unlikely before the November election, given the political sensitivity of the issue. The plan expands eligibility for Medicaid benefits to cover anyone with income below the federal poverty level.

Judge refuses to halt Medicare pay rules in pathologists' suit
Article Abstract:
Pathologists are disputing a ruling stating that they cannot be reimbursed under Part B of the Medicare Act for their services rendered in a hospital setting. The Dept. of Health and Human Services has stated that these services do not fall under the category of medical care given to an individual but are more in the province of group medical care. Therefore, the pathologists are not eligible for reimbursement.
