On the edge
Article Abstract:
Staff at the accident and emergency department of Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, UK, treated an attempted suicide victim, John Jones, farmer, aged 49, who was suffering from financial problems and the death of his wife. Jones had shot himself in the face. Once he had been stabilized, and his airways cleared, facial maxillary specialists were called. He was also given a CT scan to check whether his brain had been injured.

New, but hardly improved
Article Abstract:
A nurse returning to the profession after a ten-year break reports her disappointment with changes. Nursing needed to change, and new models of practice have been introduced. Current nursing practice does not, however, appear to have changed for the better as far as daily care is concerned. There now appears to be less teamwork and less concern for patients.
