Medical pot: doctors caught between state, federal laws
Article Abstract:
Doctors in Arizona and California will be facing dilemmas over prescribing marijuana (pot) for medical use, despite the passage of Propositions 200 and 215 in those states. The U.S. government classifies pot as a Schedule 1 drug, likely to be unsafe even under medical supervision. Prop. 200 allows Arizona doctors to prescribe pot if medical applications are discovered, but the Drug Enforcement Administration vows to prosecute prescribing physicians regardless of state law.
