Paramedics to act up in move to beat staff shortages
Article Abstract:
Nurses at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow, UK, are angered by the employment of paramedics in the A&E department as a result of nursing staff shortages and are seeking management guarantees that they will not be made liable for code of conduct breaches. Paramedics will operate under nursing supervision and be paid at C-grade level. Nurses will only ask paramedics to perform duties in which they are competent, but the nurses are concerned about accountability.

Misery in Munich
Article Abstract:
Anurse's twelve month nursing appointment in Munch, Germany failed as arrangements had not been adequately formalised. Expected terms included a salary of 12,000 pounds sterling per annum, inexpensive accommodation close to the hospital and substantial German tuition. However, the salary was less than anticipated, the unfinished accomodation was situated outside Munich and only three hours of tuition per day were provided.

A space to move in
Article Abstract:
Physical environment influences the safety of manual handling. Ergonomic assessment of work areas facilitates efficient use of space and equipment to minimise dangers. Practice evaluation may indicate areas for improvement, for example changing layout may allow more freedom of movement. Equipment and working areas should be in good repair to avoid accidents.
