Patterns of alcohol consumption in middle-aged men from France and Northern Ireland. The PRIME study
Article Abstract:
Concentrating on a single nutrient or food without taking account of the pattern of consumption and the nutritional background of the population being investigated could produce inconsistent results. Research in this area has assessed patterns of alcohol consumption in France and Northern Ireland on the basis of the Prospective Epidemiological Study of Myocardial Infarction, created in 1991 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and at three centres in France. It is clear that two populations with very different coronary artery disease rates have the same overall alcohol consumption. However, they differ substantially with respect to the type of alcoholic drinks consumed.

Effect of regular consumption of oily fish compared with white fish on chronic plaque psoriasis
Article Abstract:
The effect of regular consumption of oily fish compared with white fish on chronic plaque psoriasis is presented. Results showed that daily intake of 170 g of oily fish for six weeks resulted in modest clinical improvement as compared to the white fish diet. Plasma eicosapentanoic acid levels also increased with the oily fish diet. Thus, oily fish such as mackerel, sardine, pilchard, kipper and herring may be recommended as an adjunct in the treatment of psoriasis.

Association of alcohol consumption with HDL subpopulations defined by apolipoprotein A-I and apolipoprotein A-II content
Article Abstract:
A study on 100 males with varying rates of alcohol intake revealed the association between alcohol consumption and apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and apo A-II, subpopulations of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Alcohol intake is associated with an increase of HDL-C, apo A-I and apo A-II. Factors such as serum triglyceride concentration, body mass, cigarette smoking and physical activity did not affect the increase.
