Session C: the role of patient databases in assessing treatment safety
Article Abstract:
Large, automated, multipurpose population-based databases (LAMPS) are very useful for assessing the long-term safety of antiretroviral drugs in the treatment of HIV infection and AIDS. LAMPS can effectively identify infrequent adverse drug effects and monitor the effectiveness and safety of drugs in small populations, such as HIV-positive pregnant women. LAMPS supplement direct physician reports of adverse drug reactions, and are important tools for safety monitoring after drugs enter widespread use.
