Placental transfer of ritonavir with zidovudine in the ex vivo placental perfusion model
Article Abstract:
The protease inhibitor ritonavir may be safe to use in pregnant women. Most HIV-infected children are infected at birth. Zidovudine use during pregnancy has reduced that risk significantly. However, most AIDS patients are now taking three drugs and many pregnant women may benefit from triple drug therapy. A study of placental tissue samples showed that ritonavir metabolism was not affected by concurrent zidovudine exposure. At low concentrations of the drug, very little drug would accumulate in the fetal circulation.

Placental transfer of rosiglitazone in the ex vivo human perfusion model
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine transplacental passage of rosiglitazone (Avandia) using the ex vivo human placental model. It is observed that there is minimal transfer and fetal accumulation of rosiglitazone in the ex vivo human perfusion model.

Ex vivo human placental transfer and the vasoactive properties of hydralazine
Article Abstract:
Hydralazine can cross the placenta and affect fetal blood pressure. Hydralazine is used to treat hypertension and is often given to pregnant women. There are no reports of any adverse effects on the fetus.
