Plugging into computers: how they can help you decentralize your practice
Article Abstract:
Adding a computer to a dental office can increase efficiency. This occurs because a computer automatically decentralizes the practice. Anyone with access to a terminal can schedule patients and update medical records. Machine-readable files and digitalized X-rays can be added to the system. Patients who see a dentist's office using sophisticated computer equipment may also assume the dentist is using the latest dental techniques. This could enhance the reputation of the dentist.

Preparing for electronic documentation
Article Abstract:
The nursing department of one hospital developed a process to redesign its documentation forms in preparation for JCAHO certification. The forms were designed specifically to make them easily transferable to a computerized system. A council of nurses reviewed all forms that did not meet JCAHO standards and the forms were revised. Flyers and posters were used to solicit input from staff. A pilot phase was initiated showing that the forms were well accepted by staff and JCAHO.
