Poor show: the latest DoH report on health across the UK shows clearly that poor people experience more ill health than the better off
Article Abstract:
The poor experience more ill health than the better off, according to the Department of Health report Health of the Nation: Variations in Health. However the question of how poverty can be eradicated has not been addressed and health workers claim it is not the responsibility of the NHS to solve the problem of damp housing or to create full employment. The report found that life expentancy of professional people is seven years longer that manual workers.

Big deal
Article Abstract:
Unison is happy about the deal struck with the government over local pay in the health service. The government has decided to keep the pay review bodies for doctors and nurses. However, the RCN believes the framework would endanger the review body for nurses. The deal means that employees receiving lower than average increases in 1995 will benefit from a pay safety net.
