Post-mortems: how and why they are carried out
Article Abstract:
Post-mortems not only determine the cause of death but are also a useful way of gathering data on conditions such as heart disease and for planning health programmes. Relatives usually need to give permission for a post-mortem to be carried out but a coroner can insist on one if the death was suspicious. Care is taken that no marks will be visible on the body afterwards. A pathologist will take about two hours to do a routine post-mortem and a report is prepared after the body samples have been analysed. Details are given about the post-mortem procedure.

Future treatment options for haematological malignancies
Article Abstract:
Future targets of the Leukaemia Research Fund are to improve the prognosis for those patients who are newly diagnosed and reduce the effect of treatment on long term survivors. Chemotherapy is the primary treatment modality for haematological malignancies and surgery is rarely used. However there are problems of multi-drug resistance and new drugs are being researched that could inhibit the process.
