Prenatal Exposure to Wartime Famine and Development of Antisocial Personality Disorder in Early Adulthood
Article Abstract:
People who were exposed to malnutrition as a fetus may be more likely to develop antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) as adults. Researchers tested 100,543 Dutch soldiers who had been born between 1944 and 1946. During this time, the German army blockaded food supplies to the Netherlands, subjecting the western Netherlands nutritional deficiency. Men who were born in this area were more than twice as likely to have ASPD, but only if they were exposed to malnutrition during the first and second trimester of pregnancy.
