A protocol for people with hearing impairment
Article Abstract:
The Llandough Hospital and Community National Health Service Trust undertook to develop a plan of how to give people with hearing problems the best possible care. They proposed some nurses would be trained in communicating with the deaf and interpreters would always be available. They also introduced a training scheme to educate staff. The protocol was devised after consultation with deaf people. Some 8.4 million British people have a hearing difficulty of varying degrees, with 62,000 of them requiring sign language to communicate.
