Promoting oral health in older people

Article Abstract:

Older people often neglect their dental health because they have mobility problems which restrict their ability to brush their teeth, or they cannot get out to the dentist's surgery, or they cannot afford to pay dental charges. Poorly fitting dentures can cause problems, especially if they are old. Dentures should be cleaned properly and put in water overnight. Oral cancer can start as an ulcer or lump on the lip or tongue which then spreads into the jaw and lymph nodes. People should go to their dentist with any symptoms which last longer than three weeks.
