Continuing care observed
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted into the prevalence of hospital-acquired infection among 71 long-stay elderly patients. A questionnaire covered aspects of hygiene in nursing procedures. Observation of procedures provided additional information. Four ward sisters, nine nurses and 18 auxiliaries responded. The survey indicated the need for education in hand-washing procedures and disinfection routines. A need for training in the use of urinary catheters was indicated. Monthly ward visits by the infection control specialist were recommended. Observation to record patient infection was necessary.
