Prostatitis: a common, other vexing problem

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate that is usually not life-threatening but may be difficult to diagnose and treat. The prostate gland may be irritated by bicycling, jogging and other physical actions that subject the gland to vibration. The three forms are acute bacterial, chronic bacterial and chronic nonbacterial. It generally affects men between the ages of 30 and 50.

Itching: usually harmless, but it may herald a serious problem

Generalized itching or pruritis may be a symptom of dry skin or a serious illness. If the latter is suspected, a thorough physical examination may be required. Some diseases that cause itching are chronic kidney failure, neurological disorders and diabetes.
