Protocols are no substitute for instinct

Protocols and policies have a place but they are no substitute for clinical instinct and common sense. The feeling that good old-fashioned nursing instinct may be driven out of the workplace by overtly dogmatic protocols and policies is lamented.

Implementing the essence of care benchmark for pressure ulcers
Article Abstract:
The way in which pressure ulcer benchmark was adapted to local needs and implemented successfully is described. In addition, the way in which nurses can also be involved in the implementation process is demonstrated.
