A suitable case for conversion?
Article Abstract:
Mixed views are currently being expressed about the possibility of demutualizing Nationwide Building Society. The pressure group Members for Conversion believes that the building society should convert to a PLC, thus making free shares available to investors and borrowers. They reject the moral argument being made against conversion that the free capital which the building society has built up over several generations should be retained for future generations. The directors of the building society believe that it should retain its mutual status, as this is the best way of protecting members' interests.
