Recovery on a plate
Article Abstract:
Eating good food plays an important part in wound recovery because it gives patients energy and nutrients. Patients need more nutrients than normal and a lack of them makes patients more susceptible to complications. They also have slower recovery rates. Health professionals are being alerted to the risks and encouraged to make thorough assessments of a patient's condition, with high risk patients being referred to a dietician. Fat is a good source of energy and cakes, chocolate and biscuits may be more attractive than oral supplements. Protein is also important.
